    5 Wide Offense
Core Runs to install

The 5 Wide Offense has 2 core run plays/concepts

They are INSIDE ZONE and COUNTER.

The blocking is shown below in the Core 4 formations of the 5 Wide Offense:

2x2 no TE - called Hurricane/Hail

3x1 no TE - called Storm/Stampede

2x2 with TE - called Twins

3x2 Empty - called Tornado/Typhoon

INSIDE ZONE is run to the 3-technique defensive tackle.

COUNTER is run to the 0 or 1 technique defensive tackle.

The formation we use will determine whether the INSIDE ZONE

is called to the left or right.  We will see where the 3 technique is aligned.

and call the INSIDE ZONE to that side.

The COUNTER is done with the backside GUARD and TACKLE pulling

and is initially always run to the left.

I only ran COUNTER to the left because I put my best and biggest down blocking offensive linemen on the left to down block.  Then I put my quickest more agile offensive linemen on the right so they could be the pullers.

Running INSIDE ZONE to the 3-technique and COUNTER left only to the 05 technique

allowed the offensive linemen to know they would be blocking

the same look on both run plays every time.

It gave both plays a high level of execution.

The offensive linemen performed confidently, consistently, and at a higher level than perhaps their ability should allow because they knew what the front looked like

they were going to block.

This allowed them to play at full speed without hesitation.

You can install these plays any way you'd like.

I recommend you start with just these two blocking schemes installed

the way I have described and get a high level of execution.

before you progress to other blocking schemes.
